About...About MeMy name is David J. Blodgett. I have been interested in computers since I was a child. I really got serious about computers in 1993 when I got my first computer, a Gateway 486/66 with 8MB RAM and a 340MB hard drive. While I enjoyed being a computer hobbyist, I found school and work left little time to "play" with my computer. In 1997 I started working in a local computer shop. The on the job experience raised my level of computer knowledge dramatically. I live in Tallahassee, Florida with my fiancé Kara Loewe. I work for the state of Florida as a system administrator. She also works in the computer field. We are to be married April 6th, 2002. We plan on creating a joint web sit, davidandkara.org, as soon as we get a chance. About WhyI maintain this site to further the hobbies I enjoy. I love finding out new information and feel the web is a great way to learn and share. My hope is that I can bring something new and exiting to someone else either in a hobby they already enjoy, or even better, get them interested in a new hobby they hadn't tried before. About HowWhen I first got the idea of creating a web page I did some research in to the best way to go about it. While quite a few programs would take your content and "create" the HTML for you, it seemed none made "good" HTML. I decided to see how hard it was to write my own HTML and found it to be relatively simple. I have tried to adhere to the XHTML 1.0 standard and use the mark-up only for structure, as much as possible. To enrich the appearance of the site I use cascading style sheets (CSS) and would recommend others to do the same. I use a text editor to create the HTML pages and then type up the content in a word processor (mainly for spell check), copying and pasting between the two. Please feel free to look at the source of my HTML pages and style sheet. Becoming proficient in writing web pages is something that takes time and practice, I hope to get their one-day myself. In creating this site, writing web pages has become a hobby in itself. If seeing how I did something can help you in creating your pages, well that's why I did all this in the first place. |
