Monday

I feel like an idiot. The parts for my new computer started showing up last week. On Thursday UPS tried to deliver a package with the CPU, video card and floppy drive but no one was home. They left a note saying they would try again the next day. Hoping against hope to get all the parts I needed before the weekend, I left a note allowing them to leave the package by placing it in the VW Bug we have parked in the driveway. I also decided to come home for lunch and be around the house from 12:30 - 1:30, which is around the time they usually come by. At around 12:45 the UPS van showed up with not one but four packages! Surly everything I needed to build the machine over the weekend. I opened them up only to find one box missing... the one they had attempted to deliver the day before with the CPU. I couldn't believe it. I headed back to work resigned I'd have to wait till Monday, until I say the UPS van. Figuring it was possible he had just missed it, I decided to case him down. Unfortunately, he didn't have it. While he remembered it from the day before, he couldn't find it on the van and said it probably got placed on the wrong truck. While it might get dropped off later, it would probably be Monday. I thanked him and sulked the rest of the afternoon. As expected, when I got home after work I found no package. After dinner, we went out to see The Musketeer (don't see it, see below) which kicked off a rather busy weekend for us. Fast-forward to this morning. Figuring I'll try to catch the UPS guy again, I decide to check the tracking on a couple of packages I'm still expecting. Looking up the "missing" package I'm surprised when it says it was delivered. Checking the details I discovered it was dropped off at 7:25 Friday night! Unbelievable, hadn't I glanced in the VW just to make sure... I'd walked by it several times, surly I would have noticed it. Not able to wait for lunch, I tock a break and drove home. Sure enough, plain as could be, there was a big box sitting in the drivers seat. I open the door, or try to. It was locked. And while a good precaution for the UPS guy to take, I don't have a key! I went inside and called Kara to see if there was a spare set of keys lying around somewhere. I got her voice mail of course. I checked the bedroom and find two promising sets of keys. Neither work. I tried them again, nothing. I got a clothes hanger and, surpassingly, after only a few minutes the door was open. I tock the box inside and opened it up. Finally I have my CPU, but feel like an idiot.

Speaking of idiots, don't be one by going to see The Musketeer. Now I knew going in this wouldn't be a great movie. The preview had said something about a new interpretation of the classic story, so I figured a few liberties had been taken. But it also promised some great action sequences. I'm all for some good sword play so I figured why not. Well, it might be the worst movie I've ever seen, that's why. The action sequences were dimly lit and hard to follow and the story, as expected, wasn't changed for the better. From the first seen it just didn't work. Oh well.

The weekend turned out ok though. FSU won it's home opened and is now 2-0. Next week's battle vs. Georgia Tech should be a great one, with both teams ranked in the top 10 (I'm glad it's at home). In fact the state of Florida should be a good place to watch college football next week as UF hosts Tennessee (both also in the top 10) and Miami gets Washington (number 1 vs. 15). Getting back to FSU, the team looked pretty solid against UAB. The offence could use some more consistency, but all things considered, I was pretty pleased. We'll see how good we are next week. And the Cardinals are still hanging in the playoff race. They tock two of three vs. the Dodgers this weekend and are one game back in the wildcard race (to the Giants). Not much time left in the season though.
